About

Artist Statement

I tend to mine through the pages of magazines, newsletters, and catalogs in order to re-purpose rich colors and simulated textures, and tap into sensory modes of communication wielded by hopeful advertisers. As a collage artist, I recombine these evocative visual sensations in order to fit my own people, places and experiences. The process is like creating a slowed-down painting where each brush stroke is a swath of printed paper strategically glued down. As the image emerges, I want to invite the viewer to sift through layers of time, memory and experience.

Teacher Statement

My twin flames are making art and teaching art. I have been a teaching artist in museum and community settings, and a longtime K-12 Art Specialist in a public school. With a masters in Integrated Art and Education I look for opportunities to cross-pollinate visual art with other school topics. These memorable mixtures help students to explore the world through art media. Seeing the work of professional artists in person, and visiting nearby venues heightens a sense of curiosity in students about local people and places.
